Bubble skirt

There is a lot of talk about the bubble skirt now-a-days. This fashion has not arrived in Hyderabad yet, but I am desperate to try it out.

From all the pictures I have seen in fashion magazines I feel like if you are a healthy girl, chances are the bubble skirt is going to make your hips look bigger and so you may end up looking fat.

So here I tried to slim it down a little bit by using distracting stripes for the top. This outfit that I have made is not for size zero girls... it is for size 6 upwards :-)
Accessories: Black peep toe heels, Beads or a statement necklace.

Make-up: Red lips and a pale face.

A tame little party Dress

I am not a party girl and I have never been one. I go to clubs and pubs now and then because I like to dance and hang out with friends. I attend some parties at friends' homes but that is an occasional occurrence as well. Dressing up is one other reason I go to a club or a party. But I do not do it often enough to know the latest in party related fashion.

So I consider all party attire to be my area of development. This week and next I am going to attempt to improve my skills in this area by exclusively designing party clothes. This week I am going to concentrate on Christmas and next week I will take on New Years. So here goes.

This is my version of a cute elf outfit. Please critique so that I can learn :-)

Hair and Make up: Smooth, pulled back hair in a pony tail and dark red lips with minimal eye makeup.

Accessories: Wear beads as necklaces, black, green or maroon shoes will match the outfit and little dangling earrings.

Layering

Temperature control is a very weird concept. On hot summer days when we wear cute sleeveless dresses to work, the air conditioning at work is turned down to its lowest possible temperature and we end up freezing on a hot summer day.

The same happens in winters when we are all cozy in our warm sweaters and the air conditioner is cranked up to its highest possible temperature and we end up sweating like pigs.

The solution? Layering. Unless you are going to be out all day, do not go by the temperature mentioned on the news. Layer your clothes. For example: this sleeveless dress can be worn in summer as is and in winter with a black full hands t-shirt under it and black knee length boots.

Or, on a cold summer day at work, wear the sleeveless dress and wear a cool black jacket on top of it. On a hot winter day at work, remove the jacket or the black under t-shirt and you are set :-)

Make up: Dark eyes and nude lips.

Red and White

Today was the day for a cheerful work outfit. Something that would make a cloudy, rainy and dull day seem bright and sunny. Strictly speaking weather, it was not cloudy, rainy or dull, but for me it seemed that way when I looked out from inside my little cubicle.

So I set out to create an outfit that could be out of a 50's movie. Why a 50's movie? Because, these movies always seem to have happy people who never have impossible deadlines to meet at work. When I think about how people lived back then, I realize that they did not have to sit in tiny cubicles at work. Also, most people understood the meaning of the work they did and how it affected people's lives in a very real and tangible way. Today when I think about some of our jobs, it just seems like we are pushing paper (in most cases emails) and not doing much else.

Now that you know that I am very fascinated with the time before our time, here is what I have created.

Accessories: Red shoes, it could be red pumps or open toe shoes. May be a red checked hair band and little dangling earrings.

Make-up: Red lips and minimal eyes

Any one say Professional?

Today I began my day by realizing that I did not have have any clothes in the color Aqua. How many of us have the color aqua in our wardrobes? Why do clothing labels ignore this very calming and soothing color? It cannot be because it does not suit the multitude of skin tones we have in our world... according to me it looks good on fair skinned folks, dark skinned folks and folks with skin tones any where in between these extremes.

I was also looking through bananarepublic.com and saw that all work outfits listed over there were either black, brown or grey. Most of us work 5 days a week and if we are to choose between 3 colors for 5 days, fashion can get really boring. So, I did not want to get boring with my work outfits. And therefore... this week I am going to create 5 work outfits that are not boring and I will try my best to limit the use of grey, brown and black. I cant promise about the black though!

Here goes...

Accessories: White/black patent pumps. White/black bracelet, small dangling earrings, may be a pearl necklace.

Make-up: Well outlined eyes with nude lips OR Red lips with minimal eye make up.

Lets start the funk parade

I got a comment from Vaishali on my blog that I should have put pink patterned tights together with the uninsipired black top that I created on Friday. So obviously that got me thinking and I wanted to see what actually would look cool with pink patterned tights. So I went completely Goth and completely 80's to create this outfit.

Some time ago I attended a 80's themed party where I did not like what I wore very much. So I set out to create an outfit which I would have liked to wear. Black is a staple in the realm of Goth, but pink is not. So pink had to be ore threatening.

This is what I created, check it out....

Accessories: Black high heel shoes of any kind... boots, stilletos, peep toes. Pink and black bangles or bracelets.

Make up: Go with super goth make-up but may be with pink lips :-)

Pallete of colours

Colours always have a way of making people feel better. Why else do we admire the valley of flowers with its multitude of colors, sunsets on a beach where orange, pink, blue and brown blend in perfectly, and why else do we love the amazing artworks of painters all over the world.

So after my un-inspired creation yesterday, I decided to go back to my roots and create something that will indulge my senses and will display all the colors I love. I am seriously considering getting this outfit made if I find the right raw materials. I hope the simple design will make it for the tailors around here to stitch it.

So here goes....

Accessories: Pink/Yellow open toe wedge heels. Hoop earrings or small dangling gold earrings.

Make-up: Go wild and put blue and pink on your eye lids or you could keep your eyes minimal and go for a bright pink lipstick.

Lack of Insipiration

When I buy clothes the one main requirement for me to pay money for any outfit is that I need to fall in Love with the outfit. I have to have it... I have to want to see it every day in my closet, I have to want to wear it everyday. I mostly buy only those clothes. And so far in this blog I have only posted those outfits which I fell in Love with.

But not all my clothes are to die for... some of them are average. Some of them are tops, skirts, or outfits which I bought without falling in love with them. These outfits I bought because they may have been cheap, or I had to go somewhere where there was a dress code and I did not have an outfit to match the dress code, or I would have shopped when I was bored, and I bought something that attracted me at that moment and not long after.

Today's outfit falls in the second category. Why did I design it? Every one needs some not so great pieces in their closet which make us appreciate the great pieces. So here goes my casual, uninspired attempt at designing.

Please leave comments on how I could have made this outfit better.

Accessories: Black hoops for earrings and yellow open toe heels

Winter Jacket

Winter Jackets, something we did not need in Hyderabad in the past. But after being out at night over the past couple weeks, I have changed my mind. I need winter clothes and winter jackets. I went around the stores sometime ago to update my wardrobe with the above mentioned items. As you may expect, I returned empty handed.

Most Hyderabad stores think our city is the dumping ground for fashions from past seasons. They do not think their customers are fashion or style savvy and expect their customers to happily lap up any out of date outfit they offer in their stores. I hope things will change with the advent of mango and promod.

So here is my attempt at a winter jacket. Its a long jacket and is pink in color to commemorate my favourite pink forever21 jacket. I lost the fabulous jacket when I moved from Chicago back here :-( Take a look...

Accessories: A white and balck striped scarf will enhance the look. Also, you can wear this jacket with jeans, formal pants or dresses. Pointy toe shoes with heels would be best.

Loving Yellow

What does your favourite color say about you? I am sure all of us have taken umpteen quizzes on facebook to figure that out. We have even read through boring forwards just to find out what one unique titbit in our basket of likes and dislikes tells us about our personality.

Sometime ago I would read through these forwards decide which colour had the coolest personality traits and I would pretend to like that colour. Yes, it is silly, but who does not want to be charming, mysterious and life of the party? But just because you like the traits of that colour, do you start finding that color attractive?

The answer was a resounding No! No matter what I did, the sunny, optimistic, and giggly colour yellow would appeal to my senses and I would end up buying yellow tops, dresses and shoes in stores.

Here I designed a Yellow dress, its not the best yellow dress ever. For me that does not exist, since yellow can be formal, it can be casual, and it can be professional. It can also be beachy, summery and warm and cosy in winters. And all of those adjectives will never fit into one outfit.

Check this out and see if you find yellow as attractive as I do.

Accessories: For Shoes, Blue pumps/wedges or Yellow wedges with a bow. Big hoop earrings or blue beads around your neck.

Make-up: Shimmery eyes with a hint of blue eye shadow, matt pink lips.
